A business workflow usually contains several different types of actions. Some are safe to automate because they are repetitive and reversible. Others require judgment, authorization, or legal accountability.
Approval gates are explicit points where the agent must pause and obtain human authorization before continuing. They should not be vague instructions such as “ask for approval when necessary.” A reliable system needs measurable conditions.
Not every human review has the same purpose. The correct approver depends on the type of risk involved.
